Established five years ago, Tester & Jones is Crowborough's only independent funeral director. The firm is jointly owned by Stephen Tester and Glenys Jones who, between them, have many years' experience arranging funerals. The team prides itself on offering a professional and caring service and is passionate about looking after peopl

Like any business, a funeral director needs a proposition. Tester & Jones is renowned locally for focusing on celebrating somebody's life in a way that truly reflects the individual concerned - whether that be in a traditional way or with a contemporary twist. The service does not end with the funeral, as Tester & Jones also offers a Bereavement Support Group - where people in a similar situation, after the death of a loved one, can make new friends and enjoy a variety of activities.
Being independent means that Tester & Jones offers more choice and is more flexible in its approach, but it also means that the firm is on its own when it comes to marketing.
Objectives
The excellent reputation of Tester & Jones has grown over the past five years. Now the firm wants to secure even more funerals locally and also build its profile in the towns and villages surrounding Crowborough.
Solution
The Marketing Eye saw an immediate need for an online presence for the firm. Websites for funeral directors are typically poor - unmaintained, understated and uninformative. There is no reason for this to be the case. We worked closely with our client to develop a website which would both reflect the sensitive nature of the business and also highlight Tester & Jones' excellent customer service.
Once the website was developed, Tester & Jones signed-up to our popular SEO Local service to help the site's performance in the search engines. We identified key words that potential customers would be searching for and used our SEO expertise to make certain the site ranked well for local searches in Crowborough and Sussex.
In addition to building and promoting Tester & Jones' website, we also issued press releases to build the firm's profile.
Results
The website, combined with the SEO Local service, has been particularly successful, with a number of people contacting Tester & Jones through its online presence. The statistics speak for themselves and, from having no online presence at all, Tester & Jones now ranks ahead of its competitors in searches for ‘funeral directors in Crowborough' and on the first page for ‘funeral directors in Sussex'.
Press releases have had good pick-up, both in the local press and in the funeral services trade press, and we are now working with Stephen and Glenys to identify new ways in which the business can be tastefully marketed and grown.
