More than 130 people enjoy a ‘magical evening' of ‘Jazz by the Lake'

More than 130 people gathered round the lake at Chilstone, between Fordcombe and Langton Green on Saturday 24 September to enjoy ‘Jazz by the Lake' - an evening of jazz and easy-listening music sponsored by the award-winning Tunbridge Wells accountancy firm Creaseys and organised by Friends of Penshurst Church.

"We were delighted to sponsor ‘Jazz by the Lake'," said Mark Howard, a partner in the private client practice at Creaseys. "It was a delightful evening and we were blessed by near perfect weather for a late September evening."

‘Jazz by the Lake' was organised by Friends of Penshurst Church - to raise much needed funds for the church. Guests enjoyed an eclectic mix of jazz standards and popular music, performed by Martin Nicholl's Broadway Jazz Band.

"It was a really successful event - great weather and wonderful music - and we are very grateful to Creaseys for their support," said Bob Atkins from the Friends of Penshurst Church. "They were integral to the success of ‘Jazz by the Lake' and worked very closely with us to make the evening a success. In total we raised more than £1,300."

Guests sat at candle-lit tables around the lake and were free to enjoy their own picnics or partake of the delicious BBQ fayre offered by The Spotted Dog public house.

"This is the first time we've held an event like this at Chilstone and it was a truly magical evening - particularly with the candle-light reflecting off the lake," said Steve Clark, General Manager of Chilstone. "With the leaves still mostly on the trees, the acoustics were perfect. I came away inspired to hold more events here in the future."
