Are you making the most of email?
|
It’s no longer the latest thing in online marketing, but email is a simple tool that's still under-utilised by many businesses.
Regular email contact with your customers and prospects is cost-effective, simple to implement and offers proven benefits such as higher levels of customer retention and repeat sales.
But it's not just about newsletters or sales offers. Every email you send from your business says something about you, so why not take the opportunity to make it really count?
|
5 Top Tips:
|
| 1. |
Always include a signature on business emails: it's your letterhead |
| 2. | Send from a named person, not a department |
| 3. |
Use every opportunity to encourage a referral, upsell or cross-sell |
| 4. |
Have a regular newsletter to keep your business 'top of mind' with customers and generate repeat sales
|
| 5. | Avoid 'standard' transactional and service emails |
|
|
For example, transactional emails: when someone buys something or signs up for something, what do they receive? A standard 'thanks for your order, here are the details'?
This may be your last opportunity to encourage them to buy from you again, so don't waste it.
|
Even an automated response could include, for example, a link to similar products they might like, or a coupon to redeem against their next purchase, an incentive to tell a friend, or a compelling reason to subscribe to your newsletter.
Then there are customer service emails: do you have a standard email reply to customer enquiries? Are they sent an auto-response giving them a ticket number? Is it written in a friendly, human way or does it look like it's computer generated, with messages such as 'do not respond to this email'?
Email is a more personal medium than a letter. Overly formal, anonymous, or formulaic messages can come across as uncaring and officious. It's also a wasted opportunity. With just a small amount of effort, email can help improve both your brand image and your bottom line.
Best wishes
