Summer review

At this time of year, it can be difficult to make much headway with clients because so many people are away on holiday. This makes the summer a good time to take a long objective look at all the forms of marketing that you do.

5 Top Tips

1. Check over your website

2. Experiment with social networking

3. Write a case study or seek some testimonials

4. Create a prospect list

5. Update your marketing plan

Your review could include assessing what has worked so far and what hasn't, tackling new initiatives that have long remained on the pile of good intentions, and making sure that the messages you send out in your letters, emails and web site are all clear, compelling and consistent.

Here are 10 productive things you can do to help you find more business once things return to normal in September:

1. Look at your website - does it inspire? Is the copy clearly written and to the point? Is the site easy to navigate? Are there strong calls to action?

2. Gather up-to-date testimonials and case studies from clients - These can really help with sales.

3. Improve how quickly you respond to enquiries and questions  - Slow responses could mean you send prospects to your competitors.

4Plan to send out an email newsletter regularly - Ensure customers and prospects don't forget about you and remind them of the services you offer.

5. Start a blog - Search engines love blogs, so, if you can post regularly, you may soon find them appearing in search results.

6Experiment with social networking - If you're not using services such as Twitter and LinkedIn, now is the time to dip your toe in the water.  After all, they are free.  See earlier editions of Eye Level for tips on getting started.

7. Update your profile on social networking sites - If you're an old hand at social networking, check your profiles still say what you want them to say.  Perhaps it's time to change that picture!

8Look at your corporate identity - Does it really position your business in the minds of your customers as it should and is it consistently applied across all marketing materials?

9. Create a prospect list - Use data to create a list of customers you'd like to do business with before the end of the year.

10. Update your marketing plan. You do have one, don't you?Now is a good time to review the objectives you set yourself at the beginning of the year and see what needs to be done to make sure you achieve them.

If you've got all these covered, well done - you deserve a
break too.

Have a great summer, wherever you are!
