Why bother being a blogger?

Last month?s update on Twitter proved to be our most popular yet, so we?re following it up this

5 Top Tips

1. Investigate the free blogging tools e.g. Blogger, Wordpress
& Typepad

2. Make sure the design of
your blog resonates with your
main website

3. Keep the writing style light, but still grammatically correct

4. Write a plan of things to post about to get yourself started

 5.  Read other blogs and add comments when you have
an opinion.

In simple terms, a blog is a low-cost, easy to use and always fresh website. The main difference is that it is interactive ? you post an entry and your readers can respond.

Traditional websites quickly become static, because their owners don?t want to keep paying their developers to make updates. This problem goes away with a blog.

You can add content and make changes to the appearance at any time. Many people say that blogs are the next generation of websites ? and we agree!

Why blog?

Think of your blog as the link between your customers, the search engines and the media.

If you blog, you can post an article on anything that appears relevant at the time.  The writing style is light and because you give information or an opinion, they invariably add more value than the carefully crafted self promotion of a brochure. Good blog posts are frequently forwarded on and journalists like them too.

Another good reason for blogging is that blogs often appear higher in the search engines than static websites. This is because they are so frequently updated. Try it.  When you look for something on Google, invariably there will be a number of blogs at the top of the listings.

Blogging isn?t a substitute for other forms of marketing: it?s a complement.  We look at The Marketing Eye blog as a means of generating interest in our business and position it between Twitter and the website in our on-line marketing strategy.

Content
A good business blog is updated regularly, which often leads to concerns about what to write about.

Don?t worry!  Blogging is a habit and you will soon get used to it.  If you are immersed in your business and your industry, there is any number of things to write about: case studies; how-to guides; industry developments; the general travails of running a business, all provide rich sources of content.

Have a try

Give blogging a go.  If you don?t, you?re missing out on a fast, efficient communication channel with your target customers.  Join in the conversation!
