We have 27 qualified leads and a good number of business cards to follow up on too.

Many people complemented us on our stand, Prioryman and our Blazers and all were extremely surprised when we said that it had been our first exhibition ever!

Red 8 raises more than £20,000 for Hospice in the Weald

The Marketing Eye is celebrating after Red 8 - the corporate dinner it jointly organised with Hospice in the Weald - raised a massive £20,882 for the charity. The Red 8 event took place last Friday night (18 February 2011) at The Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells and attracted 170 guests from the local business community.

"We were delighted to be asked by Hospice in the Weald to help with the concept and marketing of Red 8 - the Hospice's first ever black tie corporate event," says Neil Edwards, Managing Director of The Marketing Eye, which is based in Uckfield. "The evening was a great success and we were excited to be part of it. Hospice in the Weald is a vital asset for our community and we consider any part that we play in its maintenance and growth, a duty and a privilege."

Adds Rachel Holweger, Fundraising Director at Hospice in the Weald: "We raised so much more than we could have hoped for. I still can't believe how quickly Red 8 was pulled together and we have to thank The Marketing Eye for this. The team helped with everything from initial ideas and promotion, down to the logistics on the night."

"As marketing sponsor, our key objective was to make sure that everybody in the local business community knew about Red 8 and we successfully achieved that through a combination of email marketing, PR and social media," adds Neil. "We also launched a dedicated Red 8 website."

The evening began with a Champagne Reception, which was sponsored by Heartwood Wealth Management. Red 8 was also sponsored by Brolley, the Tonbridge-based company which provides everything you need for your home and business, from a dog walker to a plumber.

After a welcome from Rob Woolley, CEO of Hospice in the Weald, who said that the Hospice measures its success on ‘the services we deliver to people in the community', guests were entertained by comedian Scott Charlton, MC for the evening, as well as Henry ‘Blowers' Blofeld, who shared stories from his fascinating life.

Blowers reminisced about his honeymoon in Jamaica in 1961 and being invited to ‘Golden Eye' the home of ‘James Bond' creator, Ian Fleming. He also revealed that the Bond villain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, was named after Henry's family. It was in Jamaica that Henry first met Noel Coward and he painted a wonderful picture of the actor sitting at his piano in his pink linen coat, giving a private rendition of ‘Mad Dogs and Englishmen' to Henry and his new wife, as rings of smoke plumed up towards the ceiling.

hospicefundraiserlowres_042_web.jpgThe headliner of the evening was the real Red 8 - AKA Flight Lieutenant Dave Davies - a member of the Red Arrows. He outlined the history of the Red Arrows and explained how the team is one of the key recruitment tools for the MoD and for promoting Britain and the quality of its defence industry. His talk included some breathtaking video taken from inside Red 8's cockpit.

An exciting raffle and auction helped to boost funds on the night and guests went home having secured lots including a holiday at the breathtaking 7-star Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

"We are exceptionally grateful to The Marketing Eye as marketing partner for the Red 8 event," says Rachel Holweger. "They have been invaluable in helping to promote what has become such a high profile and much talked about event. As well as being professional and thorough, they have also been wonderful to work with."
