Young Business Minds 2014 launched this week

Neil and Samantha are this week launching Young Business Minds 2014 across the six colleges which are taking part this year. These are Uckfield Community Technology College, Uplands Community College (Wadhurst), Heathfield Community College and Ringmer Community College, which have all been involved before - plus two new colleges this year: Tonbridge School and Sussex Downs College in Eastbourne.

Now in its fourth year, the annual inter-college competition for year 12 students, organised and developed by The Marketing Eye, was won last year by a team from Uckfield Community Technology College called ‘Tavolo'. The winning team produced a business plan for a circular-shaped desk aimed at professional graphic/textile designers or architects.

Launched to give a real focus to the time between year 12 exams and the end of the school year, students taking part in the competition are divided into teams and work together to agree on a product or service idea, which they then develop into a business plan during a two-week period.

The plan will then be documented into a written report and pitched to a panel made up of Neil Edwards from The Marketing Eye, Adrian Corbin from Scientifica, James Duggan from Simmons Gainsford and Hamish Smith from Rix & Kay.

"The standard of presentations has got better and better every year - so we have great expectations for Young Business Minds 2014," says Neil Edwards. "The processes the teams will go through over the next couple of weeks will stand them in good stead as they approach their final year of ‘A' Level studies and look ahead to their careers or time at university."
