Hospice in the Weald saddles up for Hooves for Hospice 2014

Hospice in the Weald saddles up for Hooves for Hospice 2014

After the overwhelming success of the inaugural Charity Race Day ‘Hooves for Hospice' last year, Hospice in the Weald is saddling up for another day of live racing, great food, hospitality and fundraising. Hooves for Hospice is taking place at Lingfield Park Racecourse on Friday 21 March - the first day of the Winter Derby.

Last year, people from the local, corporate and equestrian worlds attended the first Hooves for Hospice and helped raise £30,000 for Hospice in the Weald.

"We are inviting companies and supporters to join us once again for a fantastic day at the races - which will enable guests to enjoy the special atmosphere of a top-class racing event, while raising funds for Hospice in the Weald," says Rob Woolley, Chief Executive of Hospice in the Weald.

Hooves for Hospice will begin with a Champagne reception, which will be followed by one of the highlights of the day - the Hospice in the Weald Amateur Jockey Race. This will see amateur jockeys taking part and raising money for the charity at the same time. They will be given training beforehand. Last year the race was won by Maurice McCarthy, who said that it had always been his ambition to win a charity race.

In addition to enjoying the racing, guests will also have the opportunity of taking part in a live auction and raffle - with some stunning prizes.

Hooves for Hospice is being supported by The Marketing Eye - which has helped Hospice in the Weald organise its corporate events for the past three years.

Hooves for Hospice guests will be able to enjoy the excitement of live racing - which they can watch on big screens or trackside if they prefer - while a pundit will be on hand to give guests tips.

"We are very much looking forward to the second Hooves for Hospice," says Rob Woolley. "We need to raise £5 million each year to continue providing our vital services - so fundraising events such as this are key."

He continues: "We are rooted in the local community here and can't do what we do without the support of people and companies in this area. We are very careful with our supporters' money - 90p in every £1 we are given is spent directly on care."
